Yacht Outfitters Custom-fitted linens and specialty products
We love our boat and want the best products for it. This passion for boating is what inspired us to create and sell products specifically for use on sport cruisers and yachts. It all started after purchasing a Sea Ray® Sundancer®. We were enthusiastic about outfitting the boat with every day products you would use during an afternoon on the water or for overnight outings. Searching for products with a proper design and size was surprisingly difficult. Shopping for items throughout the cabin (e.g., stateroom, galley, or salon) enhanced the challenge even further. The initial concern was finding quality bed sheets that had a regular fit at an affordable price. We don't use adjustable linens at home and wanted to find regular sheets with a proper fit for use on the boat. The idea for Yacht Outfitters continued to expand as we continued to design the interior of our boat. And so Yacht Outfitters was formed - to supply boat lovers with high quality, custom-fitted products at reasonable prices.
Our Fabrics Our bed sheets are made from some of the highest quality fabrics available from the U.S. and Europe. There were four main considerations we observed while developing the sheets, and you may be surprised to discover that thread count was not number one on the list. Fiber quality, yarn size, finishing, and construction (including thread count) should all be measured when buying bed sheets, in order to determine the level of quality. We start with 100% long staple cotton fibers to create a quality yarn. The long staple, referring to the length of the cotton fibers, is superior because it creates a solid foundation from stronger and finer yarns. Yarn size is determined by the fineness of the yarn - a higher yarn size creates a finer yarn. Using a finer yarn will give you a light and supple fabric. Construction refers to the number of vertical threads (warp) and horizontal threads (weft) woven together to create the fabric. Our fabric is woven using a process called single pick insertion. This method uses a yarn ratio of one to one. The "insertion" refers to the process of inserting the horizontal yarns across the vertical yarns during the weaving process. The single pick means the horizontal yarns are woven one at a time, instead of grouping multiple yarns together during a single horizontal pass across vertical yarns. Weaving multiple yarns together during a single pass is faster, but results in a lower quality fabric. Our 500 thread count fabric, made with the single pick insertion, actually results in a higher quality fabric than 800 thread count fabric with 4 or 6 pick insertion.
